Dr. Emily Lichtenberger

Emily graduated with her B.S. in Polymer and Color Chemistry in May 2014 from North Carolina State University. She completed her PhD in Fiber and Polymer Science under Dr. Nelson Vinueza guidance.

She has a keen interest in forensic science and how mass spectrometry can be utilized as a technique to improve evidence analysis. Her research is focused in identifying applications and developing methods for a unique microfluidic extraction device coupled with mass spectrometry. Two areas of concentration are (1) ink analysis from questioned documents and (2) multiple drug analysis from different substrates in a collaboration with Shimadzu Scientific Instruments.

She is looking forward to continuing this research after her graduate studies: developing methods of identification that can be utilized in evidence analysis and becoming an expert in her field.
